Pool after Ike. After the wind slowed down on Saturday morning, we had the hardest rain that I have ever seen. We had more than 12 inches in four hours.
The nightly barbeque on our cul-de-sac. We didn't have any power for six days, so each evening we cooked all the food from everyone's refrigerators and freezers. There was so much meat every night!
So many trees fell down, but luckily not on any house in our neighborhood. The fallen trees are now are stacked in front of every house, waiting to be picked up someday...
Since we didn't have power, FEMA came to town with MRE (Meals Ready to Eat).A neighbor got one, and we dissected it.
This meal was beef stew, with a strawberry milkshake, protein bar, peanut butter and crackers, and a special thing to heat up the stew. Pretty amazing.
The neighborhood pond today. So peaceful, you can hardly tell that anything happened, except for the giant piles of debris in front of every house. We were very lucky not to have any damage to our house from falling trees or rising water. Living without power for six days was an interesting experience. We were fortunate to have our electricity restored in this area. Over a million people in the Houston area still don't have power today, 10 days after Hurricane Ike.
